Understanding your Android IP address

How IP addresses work on Android, the difference between public and local IPs, and what changes between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Your Android has two IP addresses

Your Android device has a public IP (shown above) shared with all devices on your Wi-Fi network, assigned by your ISP. It also has a local IP (e.g. 192.168.x.x) used only on your home network. On mobile data, your carrier assigns a separate public IP.

How to find your IP on Android

Open ipnow.dev in Chrome for your public IP — it appears instantly. For your local Wi-Fi IP on most Android devices: Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi → tap your connected network → Advanced or Details. The IP address shown is your local address.

Wi-Fi vs mobile data IP

Your public IP changes when switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Mobile data IPs are assigned by your carrier, often using carrier-grade NAT shared by many users. Wi-Fi IPs come from your router's ISP connection. Reload ipnow.dev after switching to see the current IP.

Privacy on Android

Chrome's Incognito mode hides your browsing history on-device but does not change your IP. To mask your IP, use a VPN app on Android. You can enable a VPN directly in Android settings (Settings → Network & internet → VPN) once you have a VPN account.

Is it safe to share your Android IP address?

Your public IP is visible to every website you visit from your Android device. Here is what it reveals and how to stay private.

What your Android IP reveals

Your public IP exposes your approximate city, region, and ISP — not your name or home address. Mobile data IPs are often shared via carrier-grade NAT across many users, making it harder to identify an individual device.

We never log it

ipnow shows no ads and runs no trackers. We never store or log your IP address on our servers. Geolocation and ISP details are fetched from privacy-respecting third-party providers.

Protecting your Android privacy

Use a reputable VPN app on Android to mask your IP. Built-in Android Private DNS (DoT) also encrypts your DNS queries to prevent ISP snooping, though it does not change your public IP. A VPN handles both.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about IP addresses and how ipnow works.

Your Android's public IP is shown above. On Wi-Fi it is your router's shared IP; on mobile data it is your carrier's IP. Both are detected automatically when you open ipnow.dev.
